Sleep Disorder Center

Not every sleep disorder requires an extensive overnight sleep study. However, when it does, Missoula Sleep Medicine offers a comfortable place for our Sleep Experts to discover whats causing your sleeping problems.

In our Missoula sleep center, we offer comfortable beds outfitted with beautiful quilts and carved headboards, peaceful room art and night lamps. Satellite television and wireless internet are also available in each bedroom for a short time while you, or your loved one, are preparing for your nights sleep. These overnight sleep studies are called polysomnograms (PSG).

We also offer less intensive, but necessary daytime studies. The Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT) relies on a series of nap opportunities to measure general daytime sleepiness and help diagnose narcolepsy. The Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT) helps our team determine if your sleep therapy is working to maintain daytime functions.

Once this data is collected and analyzed, you confer with your doctor about the best course of sleep therapy treatment for you.

TYPES OF SLEEP STUDY

Polysomnogram (PSG) studies are overnight sleep studies at the Missoula Sleep Medicine center. We attach sensors to your skin (so lightly they dont hurt or scare a child or interrupt your sleeping). These sensors provide sleep data, including brain activity, respiratory function, and muscle function. Other sensor-recorded variables include heart and oximetry (blood oxygen levels) . This data helps us diagnose complex sleep problems and design a course of treatment.

Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT) measures how sleepy you really are. It, too, involves sensors (though less than the PSG study). Youre given an opportunity to sleep five times during the day, 20 minutes at a time. This test is also used to diagnose narcolepsy and hyper somnolence (falling asleep without another cause, such as sleep apnea or periodic limb movement).

Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT) is used to determine how well some can maintain wakefulness. An important test for truck drivers and pilots, the MWT involves sensors and opportunities to sit in a relaxed position for 20 minutes in the dark without falling asleep.
